AARP Oregon is seeking an intern to contribute to their work within the state.
Job Description:
AARP Oregon is seeking a highly motivated and creative student intern to support their communications, community engagement, and outreach efforts. This is a paid internship anticipated to begin in July 2025, with the possibility of extension. The ideal candidate will have a background in communications, public policy, or social sciences, and possess excellent writing and communication skills. Experience supporting and coordinating events and projects is also desired.
Responsibilities include:
• Applying strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to promote policy issues related to family caregiving, financial security, and livable communities.
• Developing and implementing communications strategies to advance these policy issues and related events.
• Creating content and outreach materials to promote events and enhance volunteer and community engagement.
• Researching policy issues and drafting documents to support advocacy and outreach efforts.
• Supporting event and project coordination, participating in team meetings and strategy discussions, and collaborating on communications tactics.
• Supporting community outreach events and projects.
Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university (rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students) and remain enrolled throughout the internship, or be a recent graduate enrolled in a continuing education program.
• Must be a self-starter and adaptable, able to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects effectively.
• Ability to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and work well with diverse populations.
• Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is essential.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Familiarity with video creation and editing and knowledge of multiple social media platforms are a plus.
• AARP will not sponsor an employment visa for this position.
• Regular and reliable job attendance is expected.
• Ability to work effectively in a home office environment with moderate noise levels.
• The internship will utilize a hybrid work environment, with Mondays and Fridays typically remote (within the US and its territories).
Compensation and Benefits:
The hourly rate is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Interns are considered non-exempt employees and are not eligible for employee benefits.
