Job Description: Commercial Banking Credit Analyst Intern at BMO
This is an internship role located in Atlanta, GA, for students interested in a career in commercial banking. It offers an opportunity to develop strong financial analysis and credit assessment skills by working alongside experienced Commercial Bankers. Interns will contribute to meaningful projects, sharpen their ability to assess risk, and learn how BMO partners with businesses to fuel growth, while also expanding their personal network and making an impact.
The successful candidate will be a great communicator, team player, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and a critical thinker with excellent analytical and relationship-building skills, along with a strong work ethic and a passion for Commercial Banking.
Key Responsibilities:
• Credit Analysis & Decision Support: Analyzes credit information for new and existing Commercial banking loans and credit solutions within an assigned client portfolio. This includes performing financial analysis, calculations, and preparing detailed credit summaries to assess creditworthiness and support lending decisions and recommendations in compliance with bank policies.
• Portfolio Monitoring & Risk Management: Supports portfolio monitoring and compliance, analyzing metrics, and assessing industry trends to identify risks and opportunities. Continuously monitors portfolio performance, taking corrective action when needed, and minimizes BMO’s risk exposure by adhering to credit policies, regulatory standards, and operational guidelines.
• Client Relationship & Business Development: Builds and maintains client relationships in collaboration with Relationship Managers and business partners to ensure long-term financial performance. Provides content and support for proposals and presentations to capture new business and expand client partnerships. Identifies revenue, cross-selling, and share of wallet opportunities to enhance portfolio growth.
• Loan Structuring & Processing: Structures and supports new, renewal, and extension loans, ensuring alignment with client needs and bank & risk policies.
• Service & Support: Serves as a point of contact for service requests, ensuring expectations are met or exceeded, and escalates issues when necessary. Supports and implements initiatives to enhance service quality, acquire new business, and expand client relationships.
• Data Management & Tools: Manages timely and accurate data entry into BMO’s systems and leverages this data to support decision-making. Utilizes analysis tools to nurture and grow a portfolio that exceeds ROE thresholds and proactively evaluates client returns.
• Problem Solving: Completes complex and diverse tasks within given rules/limits, which may include handling escalations. Analyzes issues and determines appropriate next steps.
• Broader Accountabilities: May be assigned additional work or accountabilities as needed.
Qualifications:
BMO is looking for motivated students with a strong desire to learn, enrolled in an undergraduate degree program.
• Education:
• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program, with an anticipated graduation date of Spring 2027.
• A preferred minimum GPA of 3.2/4.0.
• A preferred minimum of two undergraduate finance and accounting classes or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience (Asset): Relevant experience in credit or lending instruments or financial operations in a corporate or banking environment is an asset.
• Legal Authorization: Legally authorized to work in the U.S. and will not require sponsorship now or in the future.

Salary:
The salary for this salaried position ranges from $50,100.00 – $82,800.00. Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role. BMO’s total compensation package may also include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, and other perks and rewards, along with health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, and retirement savings plans.
