The College Financial Representative internship program at Northwestern Mutual offers a structured environment for students to build an integrated financial planning practice. Interns receive guidance, connection, and a framework to start from the ground up. Participants will enhance their confidence, develop a professional network, and empower clients to achieve financial freedom, where hard work is directly rewarded.

Responsibilities:

This internship program mirrors the full-time Financial Representative career, allowing you to:

  • Learn how to prospect and network to build your business and client base.
  • Develop and execute on a business strategy.
  • Call on potential clients and set meetings to understand their financial goals.
  • Prepare plans and offer useful recommendations.
  • Gain exposure to proprietary planning software platforms.
  • Engage in weekly coaching, training, and development meetings.
  • Receive Risk Product State Licensing: Life, Accident, and Health.
  • Build life skills that create future career opportunities.

As a Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representative, you can expect a flexible schedule designed to accommodate your academic and personal life. With the option to participate year-round, you can continuously grow your practice and receive support for advanced registrations and certifications such as the Series 6 & 63 or CFP®. The program offers inspiration through local and national recognition events, access to leadership development programs, and opportunities to collaborate with industry experts. Northwestern Mutual fosters a culture with diverse resources to ensure both personal and professional growth. Eligible students also have the opportunity to interview for a full-time Financial Representative or Advisor role upon graduation.

  • Full-time student status; juniors and seniors preferred.

  • Highly involved on campus (e.g., leader, athlete, campus organizations, student government).
  • Excellent time-management skills.
  • Interest in financial literacy and planning tools.
  • Business savvy and a desire to increase critical thinking abilities.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Performance-based earnings and revenue.
  • Learning and Development Incentives (up to $1000/month, not inclusive of earned commissions).
  • Productivity Bonuses.

  • Support for SIE, Series 6, Series 63 registrations (eligibility required).

Salary Range:

USD $500.00 – USD $1,000.00 /Yr. (Please note this is likely the incentive amount or base, as compensation is performance-based.)
