As a College Financial Representative in Northwestern Mutual’s internship program, you will receive comprehensive guidance, connection, and a robust framework to build an integrated financial planning practice from the ground up. This program welcomes students from diverse academic backgrounds and experiences, providing them with the opportunity to establish a financial planning practice while engaging with local and nationwide experts, accessing exclusive financial products, and leveraging the full support of a Fortune 500 company. This internship program mirrors the responsibilities of a full-time Financial Representative, offering a practical, hands-on experience:
- Learn how to prospect and network effectively to build your business and client base.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive business strategy.
- Proactively call on potential clients and set meetings to understand their financial goals.
- Prepare tailored financial plans and offer useful recommendations.
- Gain exposure to proprietary planning software platforms.
- Engage in weekly coaching, training, and development meetings.
- Receive support to obtain Risk Product State Licensing: Life, Accident, and Health.
- Build essential life skills that create future career opportunities.
Program Structure & Growth Opportunities
As a Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representative, you can expect a flexible schedule designed to accommodate your academic life and classes. The internship program offers a year-round participation option, allowing you to continuously grow your practice. You will receive support for additional registrations and certifications such as the Series 6 & 63 or CFP®. The program includes opportunities to gain inspiration at local and national recognition events, earn access to leadership programs, and collaborate with industry experts. Northwestern Mutual’s culture fosters diverse resources to ensure both personal and professional growth. Eligible students will also have the opportunity to interview for a full-time Financial Representative or Advisor role upon graduation.
Qualifications

- Enrollment as a full-time student; juniors and seniors are preferred.

- Business savvy and a desire to increase critical thinking abilities.
Compensation & Benefits

If offered to apply for approval of an intern contract to become a Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representative, a national criminal background check is required. Should the background check results provide information which would not allow someone to work for Northwestern Mutual, approval to contract will be withdrawn.
