College Financial Representative – Internship Program
Overview:
The internship program at Northwestern Mutual offers College Financial Representatives a structured framework and guidance to build an integrated financial planning practice from the ground up. Interns, regardless of their academic background, will engage with local and nationwide experts, gain access to exclusive financial products, and benefit from the support of a Fortune 500 company. This role is designed to build confidence, develop a professional network, and empower individuals to help others achieve financial freedom. Hard work is directly rewarded in this program.

Responsibilities:
This internship program mirrors the full-time Financial Representative career, providing interns with the opportunity to:
- Learn to prospect and network effectively to build a business and client base.
- Develop and execute a robust business strategy.
- Proactively call on potential clients and set meetings to understand their financial goals.
- Prepare comprehensive financial plans and offer valuable recommendations.
- Gain exposure to proprietary financial planning software platforms.
- Participate in weekly coaching, training, and development meetings.
- Receive support to obtain Risk Product State Licensing: Life, Accident, and Health.
- Develop essential life skills that create future career opportunities.
As a Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representative, you will benefit from a flexible schedule that accommodates your academic life. With the option for year-round participation, you can continuously grow your practice and receive support for additional registrations and certifications such as the Series 6 & 63 or CFP®. Interns are inspired at local and national recognition events, gain access to leadership programs, and collaborate with industry experts. A diverse range of resources is available to foster personal and professional growth. Eligible students also have the opportunity to interview for a full-time Financial Representative or Advisor role upon graduation.
Qualifications:

- Current full-time student status; juniors and seniors are preferred.
- Entrepreneurial ambitions and a genuine curiosity for sales.
- High involvement on campus (e.g., leader, athlete, campus organizations, student government).
- Excellent time-management skills.
- Interest in financial literacy and planning tools.
- Business savvy and a strong desire to increase critical thinking abilities.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Performance-based earnings and revenue.
- Learning and Development Incentives (up to $1000/month, not inclusive of earned commissions).
