Internship Overview:
The College Financial Representative internship program at Northwestern Mutual provides aspiring professionals with guidance, connection, and a structured framework to build an integrated financial planning practice from the ground up. Our internship mimics the full-time Financial Representative career, offering a flexible schedule to accommodate your academic life and the option to participate year-round.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representative, you will:
• Learn how to prospect and network effectively to build your business and client base.
• Develop and execute a strategic business plan.
• Engage potential clients through calls and meetings to understand their financial goals.
• Prepare comprehensive financial plans and offer personalized recommendations.
• Gain hands-on exposure to proprietary planning software platforms.
• Participate in weekly coaching, training, and development meetings.
• Receive support for obtaining Risk Product State Licensing: Life, Accident, and Health.
• Develop essential life skills that will create future career opportunities.
• Have the option to pursue support for advanced registrations and certifications such as the Series 6 & 63 or CFP®.
Qualifications:
We are seeking highly motivated and driven students who possess:
• Full-time student status; juniors and seniors are preferred.
• Entrepreneurial ambitions and a genuine curiosity for sales.
• Significant involvement on campus (e.g., leadership roles, athletics, campus organizations, student government).
• Excellent time-management skills.
• A strong interest in financial literacy and planning tools.
• Business savvy and a desire to enhance critical thinking abilities.
Compensation & Benefits:
• Performance-based earnings and revenue potential.
• Learning and Development Incentives: Up to $1000/month (not inclusive of earned commissions).

Salary Range:
USD $500.00 – USD $1,000.00 /Yr.

Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representatives operate as Independent Contractors for income tax purposes and as “statutory employees” for Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) tax purposes. Your income is primarily based on production. Approval for an intern contract is contingent upon a successful national criminal background check.
