Program Overview:
The Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representative internship program offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in building an integrated financial planning practice from the ground up. Interns are provided with guidance, connection, and a robust framework to develop their skills and confidence. This program is designed to help students, from varying academic backgrounds, build a financial planning practice by leveraging local and nationwide experts, exclusive financial products, and the comprehensive support of a Fortune 500 company. Participants will have the chance to develop a professional network, enhance their financial literacy, and empower individuals to achieve financial freedom. Hard work is directly rewarded in this program.
Responsibilities:
This internship program closely mirrors the full-time Financial Representative career, offering interns the opportunity to:
• Learn prospecting and networking techniques to build a business and client base.
• Develop and execute a strategic business plan.
• Engage potential clients through calls and meetings to understand their financial goals.
• Prepare tailored financial plans and offer useful recommendations.
• Gain exposure to proprietary financial planning software platforms.
• Participate in weekly coaching, training, and development meetings.
• Receive support for obtaining Risk Product State Licensing (Life, Accident, and Health).
• Build valuable life skills that open doors for future career opportunities.

Qualifications:
Northwestern Mutual is seeking candidates who demonstrate:
• Current enrollment as a full-time student; juniors and seniors preferred.
• Entrepreneurial ambitions and a genuine curiosity for sales.
• High level of involvement on campus (e.g., leader, athlete, campus organizations, student government).
• Excellent time-management skills.
• A strong interest in financial literacy and planning tools.
• Business savvy and a desire to increase critical thinking abilities.
Compensation & Benefits:
• Performance-based earnings and revenue (commissions).
• Learning and Development Incentives: Up to $1000/month (not inclusive of earned commissions).
• Productivity Bonuses.
• Support for insurance licensing (life, health, disability income, long-term care).
• Support for SIE, Series 6, Series 63 registrations (eligibility required).

Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representatives are considered independent contractors for income tax purposes and “statutory employees” for Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) tax purposes. Their income is based on production.

Salary Range:
USD $500.00 – USD $1,000.00 /Yr. (Performance-based earnings + incentives)
