College Financial Representative Internship Program

Overview
Northwestern Mutual’s internship program provides College Financial Representatives with comprehensive guidance, strong connections, and a clear framework to build an integrated financial planning practice from the ground up. Interns, regardless of their academic background, will have the unique opportunity to develop a financial planning practice while engaging with local and nationwide experts, accessing exclusive financial products, and benefiting from the robust support of a Fortune 500 company. This program is designed to significantly enhance your confidence, expand your professional network, and empower you to help individuals achieve financial freedom, where hard work is directly rewarded.
Responsibilities
This internship program closely mirrors the responsibilities of a full-time Financial Representative, allowing you to:
- Learn to prospect and network effectively to build your business and client base.
- Develop and execute a strategic business plan.
- Engage with potential clients, setting meetings to understand their financial goals.
- Prepare financial plans and offer insightful, useful recommendations.
- Gain hands-on exposure to proprietary financial planning software platforms.
- Participate in weekly coaching, training, and development meetings.
- Receive support to obtain Risk Product State Licensing: Life, Accident, and Health.
- Build essential life skills that will create diverse future career opportunities.
As a College Financial Representative, you will enjoy a flexible schedule that accommodates your academic life. The program can be pursued year-round, allowing continuous growth, and offers support for further registrations and certifications such as the Series 6 & 63 or CFP®. You’ll be inspired at local and national recognition events, gain access to leadership programs, and collaborate with industry experts. A diverse range of resources is available to foster both personal and professional growth. Eligible students also have the opportunity to interview for a full-time Financial Representative or Advisor role upon graduation.
Qualifications

- A full-time student, with a preference for juniors and seniors.
- Possessing entrepreneurial ambitions and a genuine curiosity for sales.
- Highly involved on campus (e.g., leader, athlete, campus organizations, student government).
- Demonstrating excellent time-management skills.
- Showing a strong interest in financial literacy and planning tools.
- Exhibit business savvy and a desire to enhance critical thinking abilities.
Compensation & Benefits
The program offers a competitive compensation and benefits package:
- Performance-based earnings and revenue.
- Learning and Development Incentives (up to $1,000/month, not inclusive of earned commissions).
- Productivity Bonuses.
- Support for insurance licensing (life, health, DI, LTC).
- Support for SIE, Series 6, Series 63 registrations (eligibility required).
Salary Range: USD $500.00 – USD $1,000.00 /Yr.
