Overview

Northwestern Mutual’s internship program provides College Financial Representatives with guidance, connections, and a structured framework to build an integrated financial planning practice from the ground up. Interns, from diverse academic and experiential backgrounds, will develop their financial planning practice by engaging with local and national experts, utilizing exclusive financial products, and leveraging the robust support of a Fortune 500 company. This program offers the opportunity to build confidence, expand professional networks, and empower individuals to achieve financial freedom, where hard work is directly rewarded.

Responsibilities

The internship program is designed to mirror the responsibilities of a full-time Financial Representative career, enabling interns to:

  • Learn effective strategies for prospecting and networking to build a business and client base.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive business strategy.
  • Call on potential clients and set meetings to understand their financial goals.
  • Prepare detailed financial plans and offer useful recommendations.
  • Gain exposure to proprietary planning software platforms.
  • Engage in weekly coaching, training, and development meetings.
  • Receive support for Risk Product State Licensing: Life, Accident, and Health.
  • Build valuable life skills that create future career opportunities.

Qualifications

Are you a fit for this internship? We are looking for individuals who are:

  • A full-time student; juniors and seniors are preferred.
  • Possessing entrepreneurial ambitions and a curiosity for sales.
  • Highly involved on campus (e.g., leader, athlete, campus organizations, student government).
  • Demonstrating excellent time-management skills.
  • Showing a strong interest in financial literacy and planning tools.
  • Business savvy and possess a desire to increase critical thinking abilities.

Compensation & Benefits

This role offers a robust compensation and benefits package focused on growth and performance:

  • Performance-based earnings and revenue.
  • Learning and Development Incentives of up to $1000/month (not inclusive of earned commissions).
  • Productivity Bonuses.
  • Support for obtaining insurance licensing (life, health, DI, LTC).
  • Support for SIE, Series 6, Series 63 registrations (eligibility required).

Salary Range: USD $500.00 – USD $1,000.00 /Yr. (Please note that this range may represent a base or minimum, with significant additional earning potential through performance-based commissions, incentives, and bonuses.)

If offered to apply for approval of an intern contract to become a Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representative, a national criminal background check is required. Should the background check results provide information which would not allow someone to work for Northwestern Mutual, approval to contract will be withdrawn.
