Responsibilities:
Our internship program closely mirrors the responsibilities of a full-time Financial Representative career, allowing you to:
- Learn effective strategies for prospecting and networking to grow your business and client base.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive business strategy.
- Proactively call on potential clients and set meetings to understand their financial goals.
- Prepare detailed financial plans and offer useful recommendations.
- Gain hands-on exposure to proprietary planning software platforms.
- Participate in weekly coaching, training, and development meetings.
- Receive support to obtain Risk Product State Licensing: Life, Accident, and Health.
- Build invaluable life skills that create future career opportunities.
Program Structure & Development:
As a Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representative, you will enjoy a flexible schedule designed to accommodate your academic commitments and personal life. The option to participate in our internship program year-round allows for continuous growth of your practice and ongoing support for achieving registrations and certifications such as the Series 6 & 63 or CFP®. Interns are inspired at local and national recognition events, gain access to leadership programs, and collaborate with industry experts. Our culture provides diverse resources to ensure both personal and professional growth throughout the program. Eligible students demonstrating strong performance will have the opportunity to interview for a full-time Financial Representative or Advisor role upon graduation.
Qualifications:

- Currently a full-time student; juniors and seniors are preferred.
- Possess entrepreneurial ambitions and a genuine curiosity for sales.
- Highly involved on campus (e.g., leader, athlete, campus organizations, student government).
- Demonstrate excellent time-management skills.
- Show a strong interest in financial literacy and planning tools.
- Exhibit business savvy and a desire to increase critical thinking abilities.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Performance-based earnings and revenue.
- Learning and Development Incentives (up to $1000/month, not inclusive of earned commissions).

Important Note: Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representatives are considered Independent Contractors for income tax purposes, and “statutory employees” for Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) tax purposes. Income is based on production. Should an offer be extended to apply for approval of an intern contract, a national criminal background check is required. Approval to contract will be withdrawn if background check results provide information precluding employment with Northwestern Mutual.
Salary Range:
USD $500.00 – USD $1,000.00 /Yr.
