P/T College Aide, Level II | New York City Police Department

The Tone:
This is a part-time college aide position at the New York City Police Department, located in New York City. The New York City Police Department is a large organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in New York City by enforcing the law, preserving peace, protecting people, reducing fear, and maintaining order. This role supports the IT Fiscal Affairs team in managing financial workflows, providing direct practical experience in financial operations within a public service context.

• Mission: Support operational financial workflows from initial IT fiscal requests and budget authorization to final payment reconciliations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Assist: Assist with end-to-end financial workflows, including procurement and contract vault updates, and invoice intake and verification against active contracts.
• Align: Align encumbrance cash positions with line-item budgets for accurate financial tracking.
• Prepare: Clean, organize, and compile cross-departmental financial data in Excel for division reporting and dashboards.
• Execute: Complete ad hoc administrative, research, or operational assignments as assigned by department leadership.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or a closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
• Experience: No specific years required. Direct, practical experience across complete financial workflows, from initial IT fiscal requests to final payment reconciliations.
• Skills: Working knowledge of Excel formulas (e.g., VLOOKUP/XLLOOKUP, SUMIFS), Pivot tables, and dataset structuring; strong numerical aptitude with an ability to spot discrepancies, patterns, and errors in raw data; high attention to detail and strong time management with the ability to track multiple requests simultaneously.
• Bonus: Clear written and verbal communication skill for team collaboration and administrative coordination; currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student in Business, Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics, Public Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.
