Co-op Student, Mechanical Engineering | CMTA, a Legence Company
The Tone:
This is a full-time, onsite Co-op Student position at CMTA, a Legence Company, located in Lafayette, CA, starting in May 2026. CMTA is a fast-growing engineering firm known for its expertise in sustainable, high-performance building engineering, taking a data-driven approach to consulting engineering and zero energy projects. Legence, its parent company, provides engineering, consulting, installation, and maintenance services for critical building systems, enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability. This role offers unique hands-on training to teach you how CMTA engineers design and implement mechanical systems and energy-efficient measures in building projects.

• Mission: To provide hands-on training in mechanical, HVAC, and energy design, assisting the design team in implementing mechanical systems and energy-efficient solutions for building projects.
• Tech Stack: AutoCAD, REVIT, Microsoft Word, Excel
What You’ll Actually Do
• Layout: Produce detailed layout and equipment details for HVAC systems.
• Schematics: Produce one-line diagrams and schematics for various systems.
• Documentation: Assist the design team in the process of assembling organized sets of engineering drawings.
• Verification: May assist in data collection activities and field verification processes.
• Project Development: Work in conjunction with designers and engineers to help develop all aspects of a project.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering, preferably as a sophomore (2nd year) or junior (3rd year), with a strong interest in Building Systems Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience: Ability to work full time in the Lafayette, CA office throughout the co-op term and ability to travel locally for job site inspections and field work. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
• Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, and the ability to work both independently and with a team.
• Bonus: AutoCAD and REVIT experience is preferred.
