Job Description: Co-op – Project Management (Engineering)

This co-op position at Amtrak offers the opportunity to gain foundational project management skills within the real-world context of major bridge projects in the rail industry. The role involves working under the supervision of a project/program manager and collaborating with various stakeholders, including department leaders, project/program managers, analysts, and functional leads.

Essential Functions:

• Performing technical reviews of design submittals (plans, calculations, specifications) to ensure compliance.
• Reviewing safety site-specific work plans.
• Analyzing change orders, cost estimates, and invoices; preparing justifications for submissions.
• Performing safety audits and field oversight of contractors.
• Supporting project status reporting, documentation, and controls to ensure compliance.
• Creating and maintaining project documentation (organization charts, distribution lists, logs, schedules, budgets, reports).
• Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders (customer service, operations, planning, real estate, engineering, transportation agencies, FRA, etc.).
• Reviewing and processing contractor and vendor invoices.
• Coordinating project logistics (calendars, meetings, presentations).
• Assisting in developing integrated master schedules using standard tools.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Actively pursuing a degree in Civil/Structural Engineering at an accredited institution.
• At least 3 years of completed undergraduate study or senior status in Fall 2025.
• Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Relevant work experience (internships, etc.).
• Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project).
• Driver’s license.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Compensation and Benefits:

• hourly range: $17.50 – $35.00 (based on factors including school year and program of study).
• Amtrak rail pass privileges.
• One PTO day per academic year.

Program Start Date: May 19, 2025 (with potential for spring/summer consideration).
