CNN Weather Intern Job Description:
This paid summer internship (11 weeks) is located in either New York City or Atlanta. The intern will work in-office regularly, based on the manager’s schedule. The CNN Weather and Climate department provides weather, climate, and science coverage across various CNN platforms (on-air, digital, and written).
Responsibilities:
• Participate in the production of weather and climate content for CNN platforms.
• Research weather, climate, and science-related stories.
• Learn weather graphics software and create elements for on-air and digital use.
• Participate in breaking weather and news coverage.
• Record a demo reel.
Qualifications:
• Major in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, or science-related journalism at an accredited university.
• Interest in a career in weather or climate communication.
• Self-starter with engagement in the weather and climate media landscape.
• Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and video).
• Ability to research and write/produce/report scientific news and weather stories.
• Avid consumer of weather and news across various media platforms.
• Ability to explain complex scientific processes in a non-technical way.
• Must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program for the internship duration (proof required).
• Must be a rising junior or senior (18 years or older) in good academic standing (3.0 GPA or above).
• Must be authorized to work in the US without requiring sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Links to published work (writing portfolio, articles, demo reel).
• Experience with weather graphics software.
• Experience writing science-related articles outside of academia.
• Experience with media organizations, school newspapers, or campus TV stations.
Program Details:
• Two program options: June 2nd-August 15th or June 9th-August 22nd.
• 35-40 hours per week in a hybrid capacity.
• Competitive hourly wage ($19/hour for undergrad interns).
• Credit is not required but documentation for school credit can be provided.
• Relocation is not provided.
• Interviews occur from February to mid-April.
