CNN Weather Intern: NYC or ATL – Summer 2025
This paid internship ($19/hour USD) is a full-time position (35-40 hours/week) for 11 weeks, with two possible start dates: June 2nd or June 9th, 2025. The internship is based in either New York City or Atlanta and requires regular in-office attendance aligned with the intern manager’s schedule.
Job Description:
The CNN Weather and Climate department serves the weather, climate, and science needs of all CNN platforms (CNN, CNNI, CNN.com, and affiliated networks). Interns will contribute to the production of on-air, digital, video, and written weather and climate content.
Responsibilities include:
• Participating in the production of weather and climate content across various CNN platforms.
• Researching weather, climate, and science-related stories.
• Providing information to the CNN Weather and Climate department.
• Learning weather graphics software and creating elements for on-air, digital, and video use.
• Participating in breaking weather and news coverage.
• Recording a demo reel.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Must be majoring in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, or science-related journalism at an accredited university.
• Must be interested in a career in weather or climate communications.
• Must be a self-starter engaged in the weather and climate media landscape.
• Must possess strong communication skills (written, verbal, and video).
• Must be able to identify, research, write/produce/report scientific news and weather or climate stories.
• Must be an avid consumer of weather and news across various media platforms.
• Must be able to explain complex scientific processes in a non-technical way through writing, reporting, or on-camera presentations.
• Must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program for the internship’s duration (proof required).
• Must be a rising junior or senior (18 years or older) in good academic standing (3.0 GPA or above).
• Must be presently authorized to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Links to published work (writing portfolio, online articles, demo reel).
• Experience with weather graphic software.
• Experience writing science-related articles in a non-academic setting.
• Experience working at media organizations, school newspapers, or campus TV stations.
Relocation is not provided. Interviews will be conducted from February through mid-April. Due to high application volume, individual status updates cannot be provided.
