CNN Weather Intern (NYC or ATL) – Summer 2025:
This paid internship ($19/hour USD) offers an 11-week program (two options: June 2nd-August 15th or June 9th-August 22nd), with a hybrid work model (35-40 hours/week) in either New York City or Atlanta. The intern will work within CNN’s Weather and Climate department, contributing to weather, climate, and science coverage across various CNN platforms (CNN, CNNI, CNN.com, and affiliated networks).
Responsibilities:
• Participate in the production of on-air, digital, video, and written weather and climate content.
• Research weather, climate, and science-related stories, providing information to the department.
• Learn weather graphics software and create elements for on-air and digital use.
• Contribute to breaking weather and news stories.
• Record a demo reel.
Qualifications:
• Majoring in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, or science-related journalism at an accredited university.
• Interest in a career in weather or climate communications.
• Self-starter with engagement in weather and climate media.
• Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and video).
• Ability to research, write/produce/report scientific news and weather/climate stories.
• Avid consumer of weather and news across various media platforms.
• Ability to explain complex scientific processes in a non-technical way.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university (proof required), rising junior or senior (18+ years old), and in good academic standing (3.0 GPA or above).
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship. (Student visas are not eligible).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Portfolio (writing, online articles, demo reel) demonstrating writing or on-camera ability.
• Experience with weather graphics software.
• Experience writing science-related articles outside academia.
• Experience with media organizations (school newspaper, campus TV).
