Job Description

Job Title: Clinical Pharmacist Intern (PRN/Flexi)

Company: Sentara Norfolk General Hospital

Location: Norfolk, VA

Job Type: Flexi/PRN (As-needed basis)

Work Shift: Rotating (primarily 10-hour Weekend Shifts)

Hours: 6:00 AM – 11:00 PM (occasional overnights)

Weekends: One weekend per month

Overview:

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a PRN/Flexi Clinical Pharmacist Intern for its Inpatient Pharmacy. This role is crucial for managing the drug distribution system and providing essential technical support to ensure the safe, effective, patient-focused, and cost-efficient delivery of drug therapy within the hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare medications under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Manage patient drug therapy in accordance with medical staff-approved clinical practice standards, under the direction of a pharmacist.
  • Serve as a primary resource for drug information within the hospital.
  • Assure the appropriateness of all physician medication orders under the direction of a pharmacist.
  • Once fully trained onsite in the IV room with sterile compounding, opportunities for remote project work may become available.

Education Requirements:

  • Will consider pharmacy students with an active intern license.
  • Will consider new graduate pharmacists eligible to obtain a Virginia state Pharmacy Intern license.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Must obtain a Virginia or North Carolina (applicable to location) intern license within 90 days of the Sentara start date.
