About the Job: Climbing Arborist Trainee

This is a Full Time, Intern position for a Climbing Arborist Trainee located in West Chicago, IL, with potential additional locations not specified. The work site is On Site, and there are Travel Expectations of up to 25%. The Starting pay rate is $20-$23 per hour.

The primary purpose of this role is to learn to trim and remove trees, and to remove unwanted, diseased, or dying limbs to affect the health and safety of trees or surrounding areas.

Job Duties:
Learn to climb trees, with paid training provided.
• Operate as a member of a tree crew, progressively acquiring new skills.
• Learn to safely and skillfully perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services for clients. This includes:
• Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines.
• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood throughout the tree canopy.
• Learning how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
• Assisting in the removal of hazardous trees.
• Properly maintain, prepare, and operate all tools and equipment, such as chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and other relevant machinery. The company emphasizes that career growth potential (“How high you grow depends on you!”) is significant.

Qualifications:
• A strong love of the outdoors.
Preferred qualifications include a background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or experience working at heights.
• Ability to successfully complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire.
• Ability to successfully complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR, and defensive driving course upon hire.
Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law.
