Job Description
This is a full-time internship position designed for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in the engineering field.
The primary responsibility of this role is to assist Engineers and Project Managers on various design and restoration projects. The intern will work closely with the local design team, which comprises Architects and Engineers, and will report directly to the local Director of Operations.
Key Responsibilities include:
• Participating in on-site survey teams and condition assessment teams for existing facilities to identify causes and solutions for deterioration or to confirm as-built conditions.
• Learning how all project elements contribute to a completed project.
• Taking an active role in project document preparation, including drawings and reports.
• Assisting with the design of conventional project elements, such as:
• Applying ACI load combinations.
• Developing shear and moment diagrams.
• Calculating column loads, considering load paths.
• Designing foundations (spread footings, piles, pile caps, drilled piers).
• Designing retaining walls (cantilever and basement types).
• Designing concrete members (slabs, beams, columns).
• Organizing and documenting calculations.
• Utilizing computer software as a tool to solve basic engineering problems.
• Collecting pertinent project design data, including surveys, codes, soils information, and other required details.
• Visiting job sites to observe construction progress and submitting field reports to Project Managers as needed.
• Assisting in the review of shop drawings and submittals.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Competencies:
• Education Requirements:
• Current Junior or Senior level standing (or Master’s student) in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• An Overall GPA of 3.25 or higher.
• Preferred Coursework:
• Structural Analysis.
• Reinforced Concrete.
• Prestressed Concrete Structures.
• Other Requirements:
• Possession of strong computer, writing, communication, and team skills.
• A willingness to travel for field visits within the state.
• Preferred Skills and Experience:
• Some experience using Revit/AutoCAD.
