Job Description: Civil/Highway Designer
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the design and development of highway, roadway, bridge, interchange, and drainage projects within H&H’s New Haven, CT office. The successful candidate will assist in transforming conceptual designs into contract plans, specifications, and construction estimates. Responsibilities include:
• Design Assistance: Assisting in the design of highway, roadway, bridge, interchange, and drainage projects, ensuring designs are compliant with ADA standards (including sidewalks, shared-use paths, and curb ramps).
• Traffic Planning: Assisting in the design and production of traffic control and staging plans, as well as traffic signing and striping plans.
• Technical Documentation: Contributing to the creation of engineering reports and other technical documents.
• Field Work: Participating in occasional field visits and meetings for data gathering or construction inspection assistance.
• Modeling: Creating 2D and 3D design models using software such as AutoCAD, OpenRoads, and AutoTurn.
• Collaboration: Working with H&H offices across the country to deliver projects effectively.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• EIT certification (preferred)
• Prior internship experience (preferred)
• Zero to three years of experience
• MicroStation V8i and Bentley OpenRoads experience (preferred)
• Experience with CTDOT and/or the CTDOT Highway Design Manual (preferred)
• Strong math skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
