Chief Operating Officer, Capital Markets Group APAC- Director | Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group

The TL;DR

• Location: Hybrid – Singapore or Hong Kong

• Team: Capital Markets Group APAC, leading a team of over 80 professionals across Sydney, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
• Mission: Drive operational excellence across all facets of the Capital Markets business, aligning activities with strategic objectives and supporting senior leaders.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office, Salesforce, Synhub

What You’ll Actually Do
• Strategic Alignment: Align day-to-day activities and direct reports with departmental business strategy to meet or exceed financial and non-financial targets.
• Team Leadership: Lead, direct, and manage staff within the team to ensure responsibilities are understood, policies are followed, and conduct reflects organisational values.
• Operational Optimisation: Optimise and reengineer business operating models to achieve optimum performance, balancing revenue against risk, and oversee new initiatives.
• Risk & Compliance Oversight: Support the business in identifying, monitoring, and escalating risks, documenting controls, and ensuring compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.
• Stakeholder Representation: Represent the group across committees and forums, fostering relationships with internal stakeholders including Compliance Advisory, Finance, HR, and Internal Audit.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Executive-level experience in a COO or Business Management lead role within financial services, with expertise in debt products (loans or bonds) and deal value chains.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years in a COO or Business Management lead role, with an overall 15 years of experience in corporate/investment banking and/or capital markets, including successfully executing strategic projects.
• Skills: Collaborative engagement with second-line functions (Legal, Compliance, Finance, HR), strong managerial experience leading high-performing teams, outstanding communication skills, structured problem-solving abilities, and exceptional attention to detail.
• Bonus: Familiarity with Salesforce and Synhub.
