Job Description: Chassis and Vehicle Dynamics Internship
Lucid Motors is seeking interns for their Chassis and Vehicle Dynamics team. This team is responsible for simulating, testing, and tuning vehicles, focusing on performance aspects like handling, maneuverability, and ride comfort.
The internship offers the opportunity to work on technical projects related to:
• Suspension: Understanding the design and function of vehicle suspension systems.
• Steering: Analyzing and improving steering responsiveness and precision.
• Braking: Optimizing braking performance and safety.
• Wheels and Tires: Exploring the impact of wheel and tire choices on vehicle dynamics.
• Vehicle Dynamics: Investigating and refining overall vehicle behavior.
Responsibilities:
• Project Completion: Take projects from initial concept to completion, applying knowledge of suspension, steering, braking, wheels, tires, and vehicle dynamics.
• Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilize data analysis and collaboration to solve complex problems.
• Support Team Members: Assist engineers with data collection, analysis, component/system design, vehicle modelling and simulation, project management, logistics, and prototype vehicle fleet management.
• Continuous Learning: Actively ask questions, absorb knowledge, and grow your skills within a supportive environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Vehicle Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of passenger vehicle mechanics, especially suspension, steering, and braking systems.
• Technical Coursework: Completed coursework in mechanics of materials and rigid body dynamics at the university level.
• Problem-Solving: A strong desire to apply existing knowledge and challenge assumptions.
Nice to Have:
• CAD Experience: Familiarity with CAD software (CATIA, Solidworks, AutoCAD, Creo, etc.)
• Scripting Tools: Experience with scripting tools (Python, MATLAB, C++, etc.) for scientific computing and data analysis.
• Data Analysis Methods: Knowledge of signal processing, optimization, data representation, etc.
• CAN Tools & Data Acquisition: Experience with CAN tools and data acquisition equipment.
• Vehicle Dynamics Coursework: Completed coursework in vehicle dynamics at the university level.
• Extracurricular Automotive Experience: Participation and leadership in Formula SAE Electric, Baja SAE, or other relevant teams is a significant advantage.
Education:
• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Proof of enrollment in the current or upcoming program (MS).
Program Information:
• Timing: May-August or June-September, depending on class schedules.
• Duration: 12 weeks, with flexible end dates based on individual needs.
• Work Location: Newark, CA, fully in-person. Onsite presence is required from day one.
• Environment: A mix of lab and office work.
• Compensation: $40-$60 per hour, based on location and degree level (non-negotiable).
• Relocation: May be provided on a case-by-case basis.
• Housing/Transportation: Interns must arrange their own housing and transportation in the local area.
• Background Check & Drug Screening: Required for all offers of employment.
• Medical Benefits: Dental, vision, and medical coverage on day 1 for full-time interns.
• Visa Sponsorship: Lucid may sponsor foreign national employees requiring company sponsorship for U.S. employment authorization, but it is not guaranteed.
