Job Description:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Internal Medicine
Job Purpose:
To provide a range of patient care activities under the supervision of a physician, advanced practice provider (APP), or registered nurse in accordance with established guidelines and standards.
Responsibilities:
• Greet and register patients, obtaining relevant information and medical history
• Accurately complete and document patient medical and physical histories in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
• Record vital signs, perform EKG, spirometry, and other similar office procedures
• Assist licensed staff during patient examinations, treatments, and testing, including administering injections and immunizations
• Report any adverse patient reactions to medication or treatment to the physician or nurse
• Perform laboratory duties, such as phlebotomy, specimen collection, and preparation for testing
• Provide patient education and instructions under the guidance of licensed personnel
• Coordinate prescription refills and report test results as directed by the provider
• Maintain examination and treatment rooms, including inventory of supplies and equipment
• Adhere to Standard Precautions, including handwashing and proper disposal of biohazardous materials
• Attend required meetings, training sessions, and committee participation
• Assist with administrative tasks as needed, such as scheduling procedures and completing patient forms
Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
• High school diploma or GED
• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program accredited by CAAHEP, ABHES, or a similar organization

• None
Additional Qualifications:
• BLS certification
• Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or a similar organization
• Bilingual (preferred)
