Job Description
This is a Full Time, Day Shift position at Lexington Oncology Associates, with working hours from 0800 – 1630. The role offers a Sign-On Bonus of $3500.00.
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), which may also be a Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA), is an integral member of the patient care team. This role involves providing both direct and indirect patient care under the guidance of a Provider.
Key Responsibilities (Job Summary):
The CMA/RMA provides patient support for a wide array of activities including patient intake during office visits, documentation, vaccine and medication administration, and various clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. The role requires assisting with appointment scheduling and diligently maintaining medical record documentation within the EPIC EHR system. Additionally, the CMA/RMA will serve as a provider’s scribe as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Minimum Education: A High School Diploma or Equivalent is required. Additionally, candidates must have completed at least one of the following by December 31, 2025:
• A medical assisting education program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or its successor, by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or its successor, or by any accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. This program must include coursework in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, medical laboratory techniques, and clinical experience (clinical experience may be fulfilled through work experience).
• A Career and Technical Education Health Sciences Program approved by the South Carolina Department of Education.
• A medical assisting program provided by a branch of the United States military.
• A medical assisting United States Department of Labor-approved Registered Apprenticeship program.
• A training program delivered, in whole or in part, by a healthcare employer that aligns with a nationally accredited certification exam.
• Minimum Years of Experience: None required.
• Substitutable Education & Experience: None.
• Required Certifications/Licensure:
• Must currently hold and maintain an active certification or registry in Medical Assisting from a certifying body offering a certification program approved by the Board of Medical Examiners and the Board of Nursing, and accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or other accreditation body recognized by both Boards.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or must obtain within 90 days of hire date.
• Required Training: The basic LMC competency assessment for CMAs must be successfully completed within the initial probationary period or any extension thereof.
Essential Functions:
• Works cooperatively in alignment with LMC’s Service Expectations policy.
• Participates actively in patient care activities.
• Accurately records patient data and observations relevant to patient needs and in accordance with credentials.
• Implements safety measures according to office standards and takes appropriate action to prevent injury.
• Provides a comfortable environment of care.
• Prepares patients for departure by reinforcing instructions and patient education.
• Manages medications following LMC policy, procedures, and within the scope of practice for the credential.
• Enters pertinent information into the Epic EHR system.
• Verifies correct entry and association of all information in the patient chart, initiating appropriate action when necessary (e.g., lab labels, lab requisitions, visit summaries).
• Schedules physician appointments, requests copies of medical records (as indicated), and arranges for patient referrals as requested.
• Demonstrates knowledge and effective use of medical terminology.
• Maintains established stock levels of clerical supplies, restocks/orders supplies, and removes outdated forms or supplies.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Functions as a Clinical Scribe when needed, adhering to LMC’s policies and procedures for scribes.
• Abides by LMC’s Code of Conduct, readily accepts work assignments, and adheres to the dress code and personal hygiene standards appropriate for patient, visitor, and coworker contact.
• Supports and actively participates in change processes/performance improvement activities by willingly adopting new methods.
• Utilizes time, supplies, and equipment in an efficient and effective manner.
• Demonstrates the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and completes assigned tasks within specified timeframes.
• Prioritizes workload to best meet both patient and provider needs.
• Appropriately accounts for supplies and equipment, restocks rooms with necessary patient care supplies, and identifies product needs, reporting to the appropriate person.
• Assists in performing and documenting environmental checks as required by LMC policy and regulatory agencies.
• Willing to orient and train new employees as requested.
• Effectively uses electronic, verbal, non-verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a clear and concise manner to ensure understanding and response, and demonstrates open communication with co-workers.
• Maintains required certifications, completes yearly safety training and mandatory classes and clinical competencies assessments, and complies with annual employee health requirements.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
