Description: Cattle Procurement Associate

Role: As a Cattle Procurement Associate, you will play a crucial role in sourcing grain-fed cattle for Cargill’s harvest facilities. This position offers a unique opportunity to learn valuable skills and gain knowledge essential for a successful career in procurement leadership.

Responsibilities:

Training and Development: You will undergo comprehensive training in various areas including meat processing production, food safety, accounting, information technologies, people leadership, OSHA requirements, ergonomics, safety, HACCP, good manufacturing practices, coaching, and Human Resources practices.
Territory Management: After training, you will be assigned a territory and become responsible for purchasing grain-fed cattle from producers in that region.
Procurement Operations:
• Maintain relationships with producers in your territory.
• Evaluate the quality of cattle accurately and enter estimates into the procurement system.
• Collect and verify key industry certifications and documentation from producers.
• Ensure producer information is accurately represented in the procurement system.
• Communicate effectively with producers and fellow employees involved in trading, transporting, harvesting, and payment of cattle.
Business Knowledge: You will gain a deep understanding of meat processing production, including process flow, yields, variances, USDA regulations, and requirements.

Growth and Opportunity: This role offers the opportunity to learn the entire workflow of Cargill’s operations and to develop expertise in meat processing production. You will be exposed to different fields, providing you with the skills to effectively schedule daily production, manage live inventory, and purchase grain-fed cattle from producers.

Compensation: The expected salary for this position is $60,000. This salary is subject to geographic differential based on location.

Location: This position will be based in Wichita, KS for initial training and development. Upon completion, you will be assigned a territory anywhere in the US, requiring relocation.

Travel: Travel is estimated to be approximately 25% of the time.

Physical Requirements: This role involves physical activity in agricultural, food, and feed processing environments. It requires moderate exertion, including bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 50 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

Required Currently pursuings:

• Right to work in the US (not based on a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer)
• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business, Economics, Finance, or a related field (graduation dates between December 2024 and August 2025)
• Willingness and ability to relocate anywhere in the US
• Basic understanding of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and live cattle trading activities
• Strong negotiation skills
• Desire and willingness to work around and with livestock producers
• Demonstrated strong conflict resolution skills
• Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Strong communication skills (written and oral)

Preferred Currently pursuings:

• GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Proficiency in both English and Spanish
