Job Description: Career Exploration Program Internship
The Port of Long Beach offers a 12-week paid internship program designed for college freshmen and sophomores. The program aims to provide a comprehensive, practical understanding of various career paths within the Port’s operations.

Example Duties (under supervision):
• Collecting, compiling, and analyzing data.

Requirements:
• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Currently enrolled as a freshman or sophomore in an Associate of Arts or Bachelor’s degree program. (Specific credit hour definitions for freshman and sophomore status are provided, varying slightly between California State University and University of California systems).
• Reliable transportation.

Intern Code of Ethics and Program Termination Conditions:
The program outlines specific standards of conduct, and interns may be dismissed for reasons including unexcused absences, violation of policies, unprofessional conduct, failure to maintain student status, poor performance, failure to maintain a 2.0 GPA, or budget reasons. All internships are at-will assignments.
Benefits:
Interns are considered part-time employees and are not eligible for medical or dental benefits or paid leave initially. Eligibility for sick leave and potential later eligibility for medical/dental benefits are outlined in accordance with relevant laws (ACA and Health Workplaces, Healthy Families Act). Participation in the City of Long Beach Alternate Retirement System (ARS) is described.
