About the Engineering & Technology Operations (ETO) Division:
The ETO Division’s Technical Resources Unit is crucial for maintaining the accuracy and timeliness of all drawings related to hydroelectric projects and high-voltage substations. This ensures project efficiency and safety by preventing delays and work hazards.
Opportunity Overview:
This is an excellent opportunity for a college or undergraduate student to gain valuable experience in Computer Aided Drafting and Design and the principles of surveying in civil engineering. The intern will primarily work with 3D laser scanning and reality capture of existing conditions using a FARO scanner, including data processing and combining multiple project point clouds into a central, registered LiDAR database.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Assisting Senior staff in operating 3D Laser scanning equipment to collect and process 3D data.
- Registering, processing, and creating point clouds using FARO Scene.
- Combining multi-point cloud data sets into one registered point cloud.
- Organizing and managing all project data for consistency and real-time access.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Undergraduate Engineering students must maintain a 2.5 GPA or above throughout the internship.
- Areas of Study: Enrolled in an accredited certificate, 2-year, or 4-year undergraduate program during their internship.
- Focus Areas: Enrolled in an academic program with a focus on Civil Engineering, Drafting, or Surveying.
Desired Qualifications (Skills, Experience, and Abilities):
- Coursework in CAD, drafting, surveying, or civil engineering.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- An independent problem solver.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D drafting.

Additional Information:
Salary Range: $27.36 – $29.46 per hour.
Internship Duration and Hours:
- Year-long: This internship will be one year in duration.
- Start Date: May (semester schools) or June (quarter schools) 2026.
- Working Hours: Up to 40 hours per week during the summer, and a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year.
Hybrid Work:
- Interns are expected to be readily available to report on-site in Seattle.
- Minimum of 3 days per week on-site, in accordance with the current Mayoral mandate.
- Additional in-person work requirements are based on business need and determined by the hiring authority.
Location Requirement:
- Interns must have a Washington State address and live in Washington State at the time of hire and for the duration of their employment.
Benefits:
- Interns do not receive standard benefits.
- They can obtain a subsidized ORCA pass.
- Accrue sick time that can be used after 90 days of employment.
Background Check:
- Job offers are contingent on verification of credentials and a background check.
- The background check includes a criminal history check (conviction and arrest records) in compliance with Seattle’s Fair Chance Employment Ordinance, SMC 14.17 and City of Seattle Personnel Rule 10.3.
- A driving history review may be conducted in compliance with SMC 4.79.020.
