This internship is a partnership between WayUp and the United Soccer League (USL).

The United Soccer League (USL) is the entity offering the internship. The intern will be working directly with the USL’s Technology & Data Strategy team.

Job Description, Detailed

Job Title: Business Intelligence Internship
Term: Fall 2025
Location: Remote (participants must have access to a computer/laptop with reliable internet)

Job Summary:
The Business Intelligence intern will join the United Soccer League’s (USL) Technology & Data Strategy team. The primary focus of the role is to assist with data analytics, maintain existing dashboards, and provide crucial insights that support various business decisions within the league.

Key Responsibilities:
Data Collection & Dashboard Maintenance: Routinely assist in collecting data and updating pre-existing Tableau dashboards to ensure data accuracy and timeliness.
Dashboard Creation: Develop new Tableau dashboards to monitor and track performance against key metrics, league goals, and strategic initiatives.
Process Improvement: Proactively identify and suggest opportunities to implement new procedures for data collection and/or enhance data reporting processes.
Targeted Analysis & Recommendations: Translate data from core revenue-generating areas such as ticketing, corporate partnerships, and consumer products into focused analyses. Provide actionable insights and recommendations to critical organizational stakeholders to drive business decisions.
Match Performance Analysis: Generate novel analyses of match performance data, leveraging partnerships with Stats Perform and Spiideo, to uncover potential commercial value.
Ad-Hoc Support: Fulfill diverse ad-hoc data requests, which includes building reports, creating visualizations, designing executive dashboards, and preparing presentations.
Quality Assurance: Act in a quality assurance capacity, ensuring dashboards and reports function correctly and providing recommendations for improvements.
Cross-Departmental Assistance: Offer support to other departments and operational areas as needed, providing a comprehensive overview of working within the sports industry.

Qualifications:

Required:
Academic Status: Must be currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field.
Course Credit: Must be able to certify eligibility to receive college course credit from an accredited college or university for their participation in the internship.
Computer Proficiency: Solid computer skills are essential, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must.
Work Ethic & Attitude: Possess a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. A “team-first” mentality and an eagerness to learn are crucial.
Organization & Detail: Must be extremely organized and detail-oriented, with a strong focus on maintaining quality and consistency in all tasks.
Remote Work Capability: For this remote program, participants must have access to a personal computer or laptop with a reliable internet connection.

Preferred:
Data Visualization Software: Familiarity with Tableau or other data visualization software.
Programming Languages: Familiarity with SQL or other programming languages.
