Job Description: Business Intelligence Engineer Intern

This is a full-time internship position, typically requiring 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, between 8am-5pm. Specific team norms around working hours will be communicated by your manager. Interns should have no conflicts, like classes or other employment, during the Amazon workday.

Location: This position can be filled in various US locations, including:

• Greater Seattle Area (Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond)
• Greater Bay Area (San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara)
• Greater DMV (DC, MD, VA)
• Austin (TX)
• New York City (NY)
• Minneapolis (MN)

Start Date: Summer 2025 (Starts May/June 2025). You can provide your preferred location and start date during the application process, but it is not guaranteed due to various factors.

Key Responsibilities:

Build BI solutions: Develop small to mid-size BI solutions, including data sets, queries, reports, dashboards, and analyses, or components of larger solutions to answer business questions.
Use data for decisions: Utilize well-defined requirements to build solutions that enable data-driven business decisions.
Deliver on schedule: Ensure timely delivery of end products.
Create data structures: Populate data structures using schema definition languages (e.g., DDL, SDL, XSD, RDF).
Write secure and efficient code: Produce secure, stable, testable, and maintainable code with minimal defects. Automate manual processes when possible.
Utilize analytics visualization tools: Leverage tools like Excel, Tableau, QuickSight, MicroStrategy, PowerBI, and statistical methods (e.g., t-test, Chi-squared) to deliver actionable insights.
Invent and refine BI solutions: Continuously improve and develop solutions to meet business needs and team goals.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues: Identify and investigate data, analysis, and code issues, research root causes, propose solutions, and take ownership of resolutions.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience with data querying or modeling using SQL.
Experience building and maintaining basic data artifacts (e.g., ETL, data models, queries).
Experience with one or more industry analytics visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, QuickSight, MicroStrategy, PowerBI) and statistical methods (e.g., t-test, Chi-squared).
At least 18 years of age.
Commitment to working a minimum of 40 hours per week for a 12-week internship.
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in statistics, computer science, computer engineering, information management/systems, business analytics, or an equivalent technical field.
Expected conferral date between October 2025 – December 2028.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, or R).
Knowledge of data modeling and data pipeline design.
Experience applying basic statistical methods (e.g., regression) to solve business problems.
Understanding of improving code quality and optimizing BI processes (e.g., speed, cost, reliability).
Experience with relational and star schema data modeling concepts.
Previous technical internship experience.
Ability to handle ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including data presentation skills.
Strong analytical skills.
Enrolled in a Master’s Degree or advanced technical degree with a conferral date between October 2025 – December 2028.

Compensation:

Base pay: Ranges from $35.63/hr in the lowest geographic market to $79.62/hr in the highest geographic market.
Total compensation: May include equity, sign-on payments, and other benefits, depending on the position offered.
