Job Description: Business Intelligence Engineer Intern

This is a full-time internship, typically working 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday, between 8am and 5pm. You will be working on projects related to data analysis and reporting, contributing to Amazon’s data-driven decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Build BI solutions: Develop small- to mid-size BI solutions, including data sets, queries, reports, dashboards, and analyses, or components of larger solutions to answer business questions.
Data-driven decisions: Use requirements to build solutions that enable effective, data-driven business decisions.
Deliver on time: Ensure timely delivery of end products.
Data structures: Create and populate data structures using various schema definition languages (e.g., DDL, SDL, XSD, RDF).
Code development: Write secure, stable, testable, and maintainable code, automating manual processes where possible.
Visualization and analysis: Utilize industry analytics visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, QuickSight, MicroStrategy, PowerBI) and statistical methods (e.g., t-test, Chi-squared) to deliver actionable insights.
Solution development: Invent, refine, and develop BI solutions to meet business and team goals.
Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot data, analyses, and code, research root causes, propose solutions, and take ownership of resolutions.

Basic Qualifications:

SQL experience: Experience with data querying or modeling using SQL.
Data artifact experience: Experience building and maintaining basic data artifacts (e.g., ETL, data models, queries).
Analytics tool experience: Proficiency with at least one industry analytics visualization tool (e.g., Excel, Tableau, QuickSight, MicroStrategy, PowerBI) and statistical methods (e.g., t-test, Chi-squared).
Age requirement: 18 years of age or older.
Work commitment: Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and commit to a 12-week internship.
Academic standing: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in statistics, computer science, computer engineering, information management/systems, business analytics, or a related field, with a conferral date between October 2025 and December 2028.

Preferred Qualifications:

Scripting experience: Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, or R).
Data modeling and pipeline design: Knowledge of data modeling and data pipeline design.
Statistical application: Experience applying basic statistical methods (e.g., regression) to business problems.
Code optimization: Knowledge of how to improve code quality and optimize BI processes (e.g., speed, cost, reliability).
Data modeling concepts: Understanding of relational and star schema data modeling concepts.
Previous internships: Previous technical internship experience, if applicable.
Ambiguity tolerance: Ability to handle ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
Communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and data presentation skills.
Analytical skills: Strong analytical abilities.
Master’s degree: Enrolled in a Master’s Degree or advanced technical degree with a conferral date between October 2025 and December 2028.

Compensation:

The base pay for this position ranges from $35.63/hr to $79.62/hr, depending on the location and experience. In addition to base pay, benefits may include equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation.
