Job Title: Bus Driver – Temporary Part-Time

About the Role

Roane State Community College is seeking a temporary part-time Bus Driver to transport students, faculty, and staff to various college-related activities. This dynamic role involves driving for athletic competitions, academic events, and other official functions. The successful candidate must be flexible, as the position requires working evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, clean, maintain, fuel, and inspect college buses to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Prioritize the safe operation of the bus and ensure the well-being of all passengers during transit.
  • Maintain all necessary qualifications for commercial driving in accordance with institutional, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and promptly, adhering to institution, state, and federal agency guidelines.
  • Successfully complete all mandatory training and testing as required by the institution, state, and federal agencies.
  • Maintain meticulous records of hours of service and miles driven.
  • Perform minor repairs to ensure buses remain safe and operational.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned to support the department’s needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Two years of experience driving a commercial or passenger vehicle.
  • Licensure: Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement (Big Bus-Class B CDL with P endorsement) and a clean driving record.
  • Medical: Possess a current federal Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card.
  • Age: Must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Driving History: No DWI or DUI convictions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience transporting college athletic teams or groups.
  • Familiarity with regional and out-of-state travel logistics.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Vehicle Knowledge: General knowledge of bus operations, including engine, transmission, cooling systems, safety features, basic electrical, and vehicle HVAC.
  • Safety & Regulations: Ability to operate a bus safely and extensive knowledge of motor vehicle laws.
  • Maintenance: Extensive knowledge of vehicle maintenance and the ability to troubleshoot minor mechanical issues.
  • Time Management: Excellent time management skills.
  • Autonomy & Adaptability: Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, adhere to schedules, and adapt to stressful situations.
  • Availability: Ability to work weekdays, weekends, and travel overnight.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, and student populations.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to sit for long periods of time, climb stairs multiple times per day, and tolerate a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Customer Service: Exceptional customer service skills.
