Job Description: Backend Engineer (Intern)

This role is for a Backend Engineer Intern who will be instrumental in building and owning backend services and infrastructure that power Robinhood’s core financial products. The intern will gain a unique insight into the inner workings of the US financial systems and significantly strengthen their financial-domain knowledge.

Key Responsibilities (What You’ll Do):
• Work closely with a dedicated mentor to guide the internship experience, from onboarding through making a tangible impact at Robinhood, while deepening understanding of the company’s tech stack and the financial domain.
Design, build, test, and release software solutions that adhere to stringent correctness and scalability requirements.
Partner with various cross-functional teams to solve critical problems across the Robinhood organization.
Collaborate with other financial institutions to build innovative products and gain valuable industry insights.
Maintain and scale an existing codebase leveraging a robust set of technologies.

Required Qualifications (What You Bring):
• Currently enrolled in a full-time, degree-seeking program.
• Expected graduation date in Winter 2026/Spring 2027.
Strong CS fundamentals.
• Demonstrated passion and interest in financial technology.
• Prior software engineering experience gained through internships, hackathons, or personal side projects.
• Familiarity with Python/Django or Go.
• An understanding of relational databases and transactions.
• A genuine passion for finance and a strong desire to learn more about the domain.

Compensation Structure (Expected Hourly Range):
The base pay for this role is market competitive and varies by location, categorized into three compensation zones:
Zone 1 (Menlo Park, CA; New York, NY; Bellevue, WA; Washington, DC): $48 USD per hour.
Zone 2 (Denver, CO; Westlake, TX; Chicago, IL): $42 USD per hour.
Zone 3 (Lake Mary, FL; Clearwater, FL; Gainesville, FL): $37 USD per hour.
For other locations not listed, compensation will be discussed directly with the recruiter during the interview process.
