This is for a Backend Engineer Internship position.
Role Title: Backend Engineer (Internship)
Location: Menlo Park office(s), with a requirement for in-person attendance at least 3 days per week.
Team + Role Focus:
The successful applicant will join an elite team focused on applying frontier technologies to significant financial problems. The role involves building and owning specific backend services and infrastructure crucial for powering Robinhood’s core financial products. Interns will gain a unique internal perspective on the US financial system, enhancing their financial-domain knowledge.
What You’ll Do:
• Mentorship: Work closely with a dedicated mentor to guide you through the internship, from onboarding to making an impact, while deepening your understanding of Robinhood’s tech stack and the financial domain.
• Software Development: Design, build, test, and release robust software solutions that adhere to stringent correctness and scalability requirements.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with various internal cross-functional teams to solve critical problems across the Robinhood organization.
• External Collaboration: Collaborate with other financial institutions to build innovative products and gain valuable industry insights.
• Codebase Management: Maintain and scale an existing codebase, utilizing a modern technology stack.

What You Bring (Requirements):
• Education: Currently enrolled in a full-time, degree-seeking program with an expected graduation date in Winter 2026 or Spring 2027.
• Technical Fundamentals: Strong Computer Science (CS) fundamentals.
• Experience: Prior software engineering experience demonstrated through internships, hackathons, or personal side projects.
• Programming Skills: Familiarity with Python/Django or Go.
• Database Knowledge: Understanding of relational databases and transactions.
• Passion: A strong passion and interest in financial technology and a desire to learn more about the finance domain.

Expected Hourly Range for this Internship Role (based on location):
• Zone 1: (Menlo Park, CA; New York, NY; Bellevue, WA; Washington, DC) – $48 USD
• Zone 2: (Denver, CO; Westlake, TX; Chicago, IL) – $42 USD
• Zone 3: (Lake Mary, FL; Clearwater, FL; Gainesville, FL) – $37 USD
