About the Role
The Service Engineering team provides real-time diagnostic support for Tesla vehicles and other devices through the development and improvement of diagnostic tools and procedures, using feedback of top field issues to improve current and future products. The Automated Diagnostics Team is committed to building capabilities for quickly and accurately diagnosing vehicle issues remotely with limited customer interaction, owning the entire customer experience from the Tesla App entry point to providing solutions for self-service or automating service appointments. This role is for an intern passionate about the product, a strong critical thinker, and capable of understanding technical system-level architecture and issues.

What You’ll Do
• Committed to building out the capabilities for quickly and accurately diagnosing vehicle issues remotely with limited customer interaction
• Owning the entire customer experience, from the entry point in the Tesla App to the providing solutions for self-service
• Automating service appointments when a repair is necessary

You’re a Good Fit If You
• Are currently pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with a graduation date between December 2027 – December 2028
• Have strong proficiency in Python
• Possess deep experience in API Development
• Have a solid understanding of Distributed Systems principles and architectures
• Have hands-on experience with Applied Machine Learning (model deployment, inference pipelines, or ML system integration)
• Possess backend development expertise with production-grade services
• Have knowledge of event-driven systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar)
• Are proficient with databases (SQL and NoSQL)
• Have a strong background in observability (monitoring, logging, tracing)
• Have a genuine interest in customer experience and building high-impact, user-facing systems
• Possess excellent critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills
• Have a passion for troubleshooting failures, improving code quality, and optimizing system efficiency, monitoring and observability
• Are able to work 40 hours per week onsite (International Students with CPT should consult their school regarding ability to work 40 hours per week before applying)

• Expected compensation: $50.48 – $58.89/hour + benefits
