About the Job
The Authorized Piping Inspector is responsible for implementing the Mechanical Integrity Piping (MIP) program for in-service piping and executing Quality Assurance (QA) for new construction in their assigned operating area(s) to ensure piping is installed, maintained, and operated in a safe and reliable manner. The inspector is responsible for planning, coordinating, and performing inspection activities (visual inspections, thickness monitoring, various NDE techniques, etc.) to meet applicable code, jurisdictional, and Company requirements. In collaboration with appropriate engineering resources, the inspector is the primary authority for decision making related to execution of piping repairs, alterations, and new construction in their area.
Responsibilities
• Implement the Mechanical Integrity Piping (MIP) program for in-service piping
• Execute Quality Assurance (QA) for new construction
• Plan, coordinate, and perform inspection activities (visual inspections, thickness monitoring, various NDE techniques, etc.)
• Communicate inspection results clearly to Operations and Maintenance (O&M) and for documentation within MIP databases
• Review and manage a list of non-conformances and work with O&M to address them
• Provide clear, effective, and practical recommendations for repair plans and perform visual inspection of completed repair work
• Maintain documentation of inspection activities (damage, failures, repairs, replacements, etc.)
• Participate in shutdown planning and day-to-day maintenance by supplying inspection and repair scopes
• Act as first contact for leak repair and hot tap consultation, tracking location and details of each
• Participate on piping-related MOCs and report changes through the MIP program (replacements, additions, repairs, operating conditions changes)
• Ensure appropriate changes are made to piping inspection plans
• Perform expansion joint performance and conditional inspections and retain documentation
• Coordinate operating area Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) program and efforts
• Coordinate operating area Special Emphasis Inspection programs
• Coordinate and oversee specialty inspection services (radiography, advanced NDE, etc.)
• Collaborate with Area Pressure Vessel Inspector on corrosion monitoring and damage mechanisms
• Analyze piping damage and failures using personal knowledge and internal/external resources
• Verify all required examinations and testing have been completed on new construction
• Inspect new piping to the extent necessary to be satisfied it conforms to all examination requirements of the applicable code and engineering design (supports, springs, expansion joints, etc.)
• Assist Plant Engineering and Maintenance shops with examination and testing requirements on new construction, repairs, and alterations
• Perform QA of offsite shop inspections related to new construction and repairs
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED
• Eastman Maintenance craft apprentice graduate or equivalent industry experience is required (including piping, mechanical, or metal fabricator experience. Fabrication and/or repair of piping preferred)
• Qualifications in welding preferred (experience with specialty materials is desirable)
• Valid driver’s license is required
• Demonstrate excellent decision-making skills and the ability to prioritize appropriately
• Motivated self-starter with strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to communicate with a diverse population of skills and experience across the site in written and verbal formats
• Knowledge of piping systems and demonstrated ability to use and interpret P&IDs and piping drawings
• Ability to gain a sound understanding of mechanical integrity practices, technical knowledge and code intent, cost control, and scheduling/planning
• Experience in and understanding of the flow of maintenance work in various crafts
• Embrace continuing education by identifying training needs, budgets, schedules, and attending training
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision within an empowered team environment
• Demonstrate leadership skills, inspiring others and leading by example
Upon Hire
• Required to prepare for and pass the API 570 In-Service Piping Inspector Certification Exam
• Required to prepare for and pass the AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Exam
• Required to attain TNO Nondestructive Examination (NDE) certifications: Visual (VT), Liquid Penetrant (PT), Ultrasonic Thickness (UT)
