Job Description: Audit Intern
KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join their Audit Services team. The intern will work as part of a team and play a vital role in conducting financial statement audits. Key responsibilities include:
• Financial Statement Audits: Contribute to ensuring the accuracy and reliability of client financial information while upholding the principles of objectivity and independence. This involves conducting audits, analyzing client financial information, and assisting in the preparation of audit documentation.
• Client Operations Improvement: Contribute to the overall effectiveness of client operations by identifying areas for improvement and making recommendations based on audit findings.
• Client-Specific Risk Assessment: Develop an understanding of client-specific risks through review of financial results, external information, current business trends, and client transactions. This focuses primarily on Japanese clients or non-Japanese companies requiring strategic assistance in Japan.
• Audit Documentation: Learn to prepare clear and well-structured audit documentation detailing the team’s understanding of client processes and technology systems.
• Testing and Documentation: Under guidance, execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances using appropriate standards and terminology.
• Quality Audit Support: Contribute to the execution of high-quality audits by performing assigned tasks and engaging professionally with clients and the engagement team.
• Data and Analytics: Support the use of Data and Analytics (D&A) in the audit, including data extraction and analysis. This involves utilizing a range of technologies and data analysis tools (AI, Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI) to execute substantive audit procedures and assisting in the preparation of related documentation.
Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent program.
• Must be pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the state where the office is located.
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Bilingual in English and Japanese with the ability to use both languages effectively in a business environment.
• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred. Experience with data analysis tools like Alteryx or Power BI is a plus.
• Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards, as well as generally accepted accounting principles is essential.
• Proficient in using computer applications, especially MS Office (particularly Excel), with a willingness to learn KPMG Audit tools and applications used by clients.
• Demonstrated quality service mindset, strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills. Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and professional skepticism is crucial.
• Must be a flexible and adaptable team player with leadership experience and the ability to deliver high-quality work.
• Project management skills are a plus.
• Must reside within a reasonable commute distance to the office and be able to travel to work locations using personal transportation or public transportation.
• Audit professionals are expected to work in-person at a KPMG office or client site on average three days per week. Some client site locations may require travel and overnight/extended stays.
