Audit Intern Job Description
KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join their Audit Services team. The intern will play a vital role in conducting financial statement audits and serving the capital markets.
Responsibilities:
• Financial Statement Audits: Work as part of a team to conduct financial statement audits, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of client financial information while upholding principles of objectivity and independence.
• Client Operations: Contribute to the effectiveness of client operations while maintaining professional integrity.
• Risk Assessment: Develop an understanding of client-specific risks by reviewing financial results, external information, current business trends, and client transactions.
• Audit Documentation: Learn to prepare clear and well-structured audit documentation related to client processes and technology systems.
• Testing and Documentation: Execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances, adhering to appropriate standards and terminology.
• Engagement Support: Support the execution of high-quality audits through assigned tasks and professional client and team interactions.
• Data and Analytics (D&A): Support the use of D&A in audits, including data extraction and analysis, utilizing technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI to execute substantive audit procedures.
Qualifications:
• Education: Enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent.
• CPA Requirements: Pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the state where the internship is located.
• GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Technical Skills: Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred. Experience with data analysis tools like Alteryx or Power BI is a plus.
• Accounting Knowledge: Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards, including generally accepted accounting principles.
• Computer Proficiency: Ability to navigate various computer applications, including MS Office (especially Excel) and aptitude for learning KPMG Audit tools.
• Professional Qualities: Demonstrated quality service mindset, strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills. Ability to employ professional judgment and skepticism, flexibility, adaptability, leadership experience, resourcefulness, and project management skills are all valued.
• Location: Must reside within a commutable distance to the internship location and have access to transportation.
• Travel: Audit professionals are expected to work in-person at a KPMG office or client site on an average of three days per week. Some client site locations may require travel and overnight/extended stays.
• Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based sponsorship.
