What you’ll do:
As an Audit Intern, you will play a crucial role in conducting financial statement audits, contributing to the accuracy and reliability of client financial information. You’ll be responsible for:
• Working as part of a team: Collaborating with experienced auditors to perform audits, ensuring adherence to principles of objectivity and independence.
• Contributing to client success: Helping to improve the overall effectiveness of client operations by upholding the highest standards of professional integrity.
• Understanding client risks: Developing a thorough understanding of client-specific risks through reviewing financial results, relevant external information, current business trends, and client transactions.
• Developing audit documentation: Learning to prepare clear and comprehensive audit documentation to demonstrate a thorough understanding of client processes and technology systems.
• Performing audit tests: With guidance from senior auditors, you will execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances using appropriate standards and terminology.
• Supporting high-quality audits: You will contribute to the overall success of audits through effective task performance and professional interactions with both clients and engagement teams.
• Utilizing Data and Analytics (D&A): Supporting the use of D&A in audits, including data extraction and analysis. This involves using a range of technologies and data analysis tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI to execute substantive audit procedures. You will also assist in preparing related documentation.
What you’ll need:
• Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent program.
• CPA Licensure: Actively pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the state where the office is located, with completion of required academic credits before starting as an Audit Associate.
• GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Technical Skills: Coursework or a minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred. Experience with data analysis tools such as Alteryx or Power BI is also highly valued.
• Accounting Knowledge: A strong foundation in technical accounting and financial reporting standards, including a thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Computer Proficiency: Ability to efficiently use various computer applications, particularly MS Office (with a strong emphasis on Excel). You should also be capable of quickly learning KPMG Audit tools and applications used by clients.
• Professional Qualities: Demonstrated commitment to quality service, excellent communication skills, strong time management abilities, and a talent for building relationships. Furthermore, you must possess sound professional judgment and professional skepticism, be a flexible and adaptable team player, have leadership experience, and demonstrate resourcefulness in delivering high-quality work. The ability to showcase project management skills is an added plus.
• Location: You must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the office for this position and be able to travel to reasonably commutable work locations using your own transportation (personal vehicle or public transportation).
• Work Schedule: Audit professionals are expected to work in-person at a KPMG office or client site on an average of three days per week. Some client site locations may require travel and overnight/extended stays, with the frequency varying by office.
• Visa Status: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based sponsorship. KPMG LLP will not sponsor applicants for U.S. work visa status for this internship.
