Job Description: Audit Intern

KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join its Audit Services team. This role offers a chance to contribute to the accuracy and reliability of client financial information within the capital markets, emphasizing objectivity and independence.

Responsibilities:

• Work as part of a team conducting financial statement audits for Japanese clients and non-Japanese companies operating in Japan requiring strategic local support.
• Develop an understanding of client-specific risks through the review of financial results, external information, current business trends, and client transactions.
• Prepare clear and well-structured audit documentation detailing the understanding of clients’ processes and technology systems.
• Execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances, adhering to established standards and terminology.
• Support the execution of high-quality audits through task performance and professional interaction with clients and the engagement team.
• Utilize Data and Analytics (D&A) in audits, including data extraction and analysis using tools like AI, Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI, and prepare related documentation.

Qualifications:

• Enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent.
• Pursuing CPA licensure requirements in the office’s state of operation (academic credit completion needed before becoming an Audit Associate).
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Bilingual in English and Japanese, with the ability to utilize both languages in a business context.
• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics preferred; experience with data analysis tools like Alteryx or Power BI is a plus.
• Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Proficiency in various computer applications, including MS Office (especially Excel), and the ability to quickly learn KPMG Audit tools and client applications.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality service, strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills. Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and professional skepticism. Flexibility, adaptability, teamwork, leadership experience, resourcefulness, and project management skills are highly valued.
• Must reside within a commutable distance to the office and be able to travel to client sites (some travel and overnight stays may be required). In-person work at a KPMG office or client site is expected for an average of three days per week.
