Job Description: Audit Intern
KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join its Audit Services team. This role involves working collaboratively within a team to perform financial statement audits for clients in the capital markets. The intern will contribute to ensuring the accuracy and reliability of client financial information, upholding principles of objectivity and independence, and enhancing the overall effectiveness of client operations while maintaining the highest professional integrity.
Responsibilities:
• Contributing to financial statement audits, ensuring accuracy and reliability of client financial information, and upholding objectivity and independence.
• Enhancing client operational effectiveness.
• Developing an understanding of client-specific risks by reviewing financial results, external information, business trends, and client transactions.
• Preparing clear and well-structured audit documentation detailing the understanding of client processes and technology systems.
• Executing and documenting testing of client controls and financial statement account balances using appropriate standards and terminology.
• Supporting the execution of high-quality audits through assigned tasks and professional client and team interactions.
• Utilizing Data and Analytics (D&A) in audits, including data extraction and analysis, employing various technologies and tools (AI, Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, Power BI), and preparing related documentation.
Qualifications:
• Enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent.
• Pursuing CPA licensure requirements in the relevant state (completion of necessary academic credits before starting as an Audit Associate).
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Preferred coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics; experience with data analysis tools (Alteryx or Power BI) is preferred.
• Knowledge of technical accounting, financial reporting standards, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Proficiency in various computer applications, especially MS Office (particularly Excel), and aptitude for learning KPMG audit tools and client applications.
• Demonstrated quality service mindset, strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills, sound professional judgment, professional skepticism, adaptability, teamwork skills, leadership experience, resourcefulness, and project management skills (a plus).
• Must reside within a commutable distance to the office and have reliable transportation.
• In-person work at a KPMG office or client site is expected for an average of three days per week, with potential travel and overnight stays for some client locations.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring employment-based sponsorship.
