Job Description: Audit Intern
KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join their Audit Services team. This internship offers a chance to contribute to the financial statement audits of various clients in the capital markets.
Responsibilities:
• Financial Statement Audits: Work collaboratively as part of a team to conduct financial statement audits, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of client financial information. This involves upholding principles of objectivity and independence, while also contributing to improving clients’ operational effectiveness.
• Risk Assessment: Develop an understanding of client-specific risks through a thorough review of financial results, external information, current business trends, and client transactions.
• Audit Documentation: Prepare clear and well-structured audit documentation detailing the team’s understanding of client processes and technology systems.
• Control and Balance Testing: Execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances, adhering to established standards and terminology (with appropriate guidance).
• Data & Analytics (D&A): Support the use of D&A in the audit process. This includes data extraction and analysis, leveraging technologies like AI, Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI to perform substantive audit procedures. Assist in the preparation of related documentation.
• Client & Team Interaction: Contribute to a high-quality audit through the execution of assigned tasks and professional interactions with clients and the engagement team.
• Project Management: (Preferred) Demonstrate project management skills.
Qualifications:
• Education: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or an equivalent program. Must be pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the state where the office is located (completion of required academic credits before starting as an Audit Associate). Additional academic credits must be remaining upon internship completion to finish the degree and/or meet CPA eligibility requirements.
• GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Coursework: Coursework or a minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred. Experience with data analysis tools like Alteryx or Power BI is also preferred.
• Knowledge: Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) is required.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in various computer applications, especially MS Office (with a focus on Excel), and an aptitude for quickly learning KPMG Audit tools and client-specific applications.
• Soft Skills: Demonstrated quality service mindset; strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills; sound professional judgment; professional skepticism; flexibility and adaptability; teamwork abilities; leadership experience; resourcefulness; ability to deliver high-quality work.
• Location: Must reside within a commutable distance to the KPMG office and be able to travel to client sites using personal transportation. Expect in-person work at the office or client site approximately three days per week; some client sites may require travel and overnight stays.
