Job Description: Audit Intern
KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join its Audit Services team. The intern will work collaboratively within a team, playing a vital role in conducting financial statement audits for clients, primarily in the federal government sector.
Responsibilities:
• Financial Statement Audits: Contribute to the accuracy and reliability of client financial information by conducting financial statement audits. This includes ensuring compliance with principles of objectivity and independence, and contributing to the overall effectiveness of client operations.
• Risk Assessment: Develop an understanding of client-specific risks by reviewing financial results, external information, business trends, and client transactions.
• Audit Documentation: Prepare clear and well-structured audit documentation, detailing the firm’s understanding of client processes and technology systems.
• Control and Balance Testing: Execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances, adhering to established standards and terminology.
• Data and Analytics (D&A): Support the utilization of D&A in the audit process, including data extraction and analysis. This involves using various technologies and tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI, and preparing related documentation.
• Client and Team Interaction: Contribute to a high-quality audit through effective interaction with clients and engagement teams.
• Project Management: Demonstrate project management skills (a plus).
Qualifications:
• Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent. Pursuing CPA licensure requirements in the principal place of business (or through reciprocity in another state with documentation provided).
• GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Coursework: Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred, along with experience using data analysis tools like Alteryx or Power BI.
• Security Clearance: Must be eligible for or possess a U.S. Government Security clearance.
• Technical Skills: Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), MS Office (especially Excel), and an aptitude for learning KPMG Audit tools and client applications.
• Soft Skills: Demonstrated quality service mindset, strong communication and time management skills, relationship-building abilities, professional judgment, professional skepticism, adaptability, teamwork, leadership experience, resourcefulness, and high-quality work delivery.
• Location & Travel: Must reside within reasonable commuting distance to the office and be able to travel to client sites as needed (using personal transportation). Expect in-person work at the office or client site approximately three days per week.
• Citizenship: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based sponsorship.
