Job Description: Audit Intern

KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join their Audit Services team. The intern will work collaboratively within a team, playing a crucial role in financial statement audits for capital markets clients. Key responsibilities include:

Contributing to Audit Execution: Working as part of an audit team to ensure the accuracy and reliability of client financial information while adhering to principles of objectivity and independence. This includes contributing to the overall effectiveness of client operations and maintaining high professional integrity.

Risk Assessment and Understanding: Developing an understanding of client-specific risks by reviewing financial results, external information, business trends, and client transactions.

Documentation and Reporting: Preparing clear and well-structured audit documentation detailing the team’s understanding of client processes and technology systems.

Testing and Analysis: Executing and documenting testing of client controls and financial statement account balances, using established standards and terminology. This includes performing assigned tasks and interacting professionally with clients and the engagement team.

Data & Analytics (D&A): Supporting the use of D&A in the audit process, including data extraction and analysis. This involves utilizing various technologies and tools such as AI, Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI, and documenting related procedures.

Professional Conduct: Maintaining integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility, fostering a respectful work environment.

Qualifications:

• Enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent.

• Pursuing CPA licensure requirements in the office’s state (meeting specific academic credit requirements before starting as an Audit Associate).

• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.

• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred, along with experience using data analysis tools like Alteryx or Power BI.

• Understanding of technical accounting, financial reporting standards, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

• Proficiency in computer applications, especially MS Office (Excel), and the ability to quickly learn KPMG audit tools and client applications.

• Demonstrated commitment to quality service, strong communication and time management skills, relationship-building abilities, sound professional judgment, professional skepticism, adaptability, teamwork skills, and leadership experience. Project management skills are a plus.

• Must reside within a commutable distance to the office and be able to travel to client sites as needed. Expect to work in-person at a KPMG office or client site approximately three days per week.
