Job Description: Audit Intern
KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join their Audit Services team. The intern will work as part of a team, playing a key role in:
• Financial Statement Audits: Conducting financial statement audits for capital markets clients, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial information while maintaining objectivity and independence. This includes contributing to the overall effectiveness of client operations and upholding the highest professional integrity standards.
• Risk Assessment: Developing an understanding of client-specific risks by reviewing financial results, external information, current business trends, and client transactions.
• Audit Documentation: Preparing clear and well-structured audit documentation, detailing the understanding of client processes and technology systems.
• Testing and Controls: Executing and documenting testing of client controls and financial statement account balances, adhering to established standards and terminology.
• Data & Analytics (D&A): Supporting the use of D&A in audits, including data extraction and analysis. Utilizing various technologies and tools such as AI, Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI to perform substantive audit procedures and preparing related documentation.
• Client & Team Interaction: Contributing to high-quality audits through assigned tasks and professional interactions with clients and the engagement team.
This role requires:
• Enrollment: In an accredited college or university, pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent.
• CPA Requirements: Pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the state where the office is located (completion of necessary academic credits before becoming an Audit Associate).
• GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Coursework: Coursework or a minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred. Experience with data analysis tools like Alteryx or Power BI is also preferred.
• Knowledge: Knowledge of technical accounting, financial reporting standards, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in various computer applications, especially MS Office (particularly Excel), and the ability to quickly learn KPMG audit tools and client applications.
• Soft Skills: Demonstrated quality service mindset; strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills; sound professional judgment and professional skepticism; flexibility and adaptability as a team player; leadership experience; resourcefulness in delivering high-quality work; project management skills (a plus).
• Commute: Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the office and be able to travel to client sites as needed using personal transportation. Expect in-person work at the office or client site for at least three days per week. Some client sites may require travel and overnight stays.
• US Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship.
