Job Description: Audit Intern
KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join their Audit Services team. The intern will play an integral role in conducting financial statement audits, contributing to the accuracy and reliability of client financial information. This involves:
• Working as a team member: Contributing to the overall effectiveness of client operations while maintaining the highest professional integrity and adhering to principles of objectivity and independence.
• Risk assessment: Developing an understanding of client-specific risks through the review of financial results, external information, current business trends, and client transactions.
• Documentation: Preparing clear and well-structured audit documentation, detailing the understanding of clients’ processes and technology systems.
• Testing and execution: Executing and documenting testing of client controls and financial statement account balances using established standards and terminology (with appropriate guidance).
• Data and Analytics (D&A): Supporting the use of D&A in the audit process, including data extraction and analysis. Utilizing a variety of technologies and tools (AI, Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, Power BI) to execute substantive audit procedures and preparing related documentation.
• Client and team interaction: Supporting the execution of high-quality audits through professional interactions with clients and engagement team members.
Required Qualifications:
• Enrollment: Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent.
• CPA Requirements: Pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the office’s principal place of business (completion of academic credits required before starting as an Audit Associate). Additional academic credits must be completed post-internship before degree completion and/or CPA eligibility.
• GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Bilingualism: Preferred bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, with the ability to utilize both languages in a business setting.
• Technical Skills: Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics preferred; experience with data analysis tools such as Alteryx or Power BI is also preferred.
• Accounting Knowledge: Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Computer Skills: Ability to navigate various computer applications, including MS Office (especially Excel), and aptitude for quickly learning KPMG audit tools and client applications.
• Soft Skills: Demonstrated quality service mindset; strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills; sound professional judgment and professional skepticism; flexibility and adaptability as a team player; leadership experience; resourcefulness in delivering high-quality work; project management skills (a plus).
• Commute: Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the office and be able to travel to client sites using personal transportation. In-person work at the KPMG office or client site is expected for an average of three days per week, with potential for travel and overnight stays.
• US Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring employment-based sponsorship. No visa sponsorship is available.
