Description: Audit Intern
KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join its Audit Services team. This internship offers the opportunity to play a vital role in conducting financial statement audits for clients, primarily those in the federal government sector.
Responsibilities:
• Work as part of a team to perform financial statement audits, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of client financial information while maintaining objectivity and independence.
• Contribute to enhancing the effectiveness of clients’ operations while adhering to the highest professional integrity standards.
• Develop an understanding of client-specific risks by reviewing financial results, external information, industry trends, and client transactions.
• Prepare clear and well-structured audit documentation detailing the understanding of client processes and technology systems.
• Execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances using established standards and terminology.
• Support the execution of high-quality audits through task performance and positive interactions with clients and the engagement team.
• Utilize Data and Analytics (D&A) in the audit process, including data extraction and analysis. This involves using various technologies and tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI, along with preparing related documentation.
Currently pursuings:
• Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or an equivalent program. Must be working towards fulfilling educational requirements for CPA licensure in the office’s principal place of business (or through reciprocity from another state).
• GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Coursework: Coursework or a minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data analytics is preferred. Experience with data analysis tools like Alteryx or Power BI is advantageous.
• Security Clearance: Must be eligible for or possess a U.S. Government Security clearance.
• Technical Skills: Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), MS Office Suite (especially Excel), and aptitude for learning KPMG audit tools and client applications.
• Soft Skills: Demonstrated commitment to quality service, strong communication and time management skills, relationship-building abilities, sound professional judgment, professional skepticism, adaptability, teamwork, leadership experience, resourcefulness, and project management skills (a plus).
• Location: Must reside within commuting distance of the office and be able to travel to client sites as needed (using personal transportation). Expect to work in-person at a KPMG office or client site an average of three days a week, with potential travel and overnight stays for some client engagements.
• Citizenship: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring employment-based sponsorship. KPMG does not sponsor visas for this position.
