Description: Audit Intern
KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join its Audit Services team. The intern will play a vital role in conducting financial statement audits, contributing to the accuracy and reliability of client financial information while upholding principles of objectivity and independence. The role focuses primarily on Japanese clients or non-Japanese companies requiring strategic support in Japan.
Responsibilities:
• Work collaboratively within a team to conduct financial statement audits for clients, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of their financial information. This includes upholding objectivity and independence.
• Contribute to the overall effectiveness of client operations while maintaining the highest professional integrity.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of client-specific risks through reviewing financial results, relevant external information, current business trends, and client transactions. This is particularly focused on Japanese clients or non-Japanese companies with operations in Japan.
• Prepare clear and well-structured audit documentation detailing the understanding of client processes and technology systems.
• Under guidance, execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances using appropriate standards and terminology.
• Support the execution of high-quality audits through assigned tasks and professional interactions with clients and the engagement team.
• Utilize Data and Analytics (D&A) in the audit process, including data extraction and analysis. This involves using various technologies and data analysis tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI, along with preparing related documentation.
• Maintain a respectful and courteous work environment, acting with integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility.
Currently pursuings:
• Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent. Must be pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the state where the office is located (completion of required academic credits before starting as an Audit Associate). Additional academic credits must be remaining upon completion of the internship to finish degree/CPA eligibility requirements.
• GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Language Skills: Bilingual in English and Japanese, with the ability to utilize both languages effectively in a business setting.
• Technical Skills: Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics preferred. Experience with data analysis tools like Alteryx or Power BI is also preferred. Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards, as well as generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), is required. Proficiency in various computer applications, particularly MS Office (especially Excel), and the aptitude to quickly learn KPMG Audit tools and client applications is essential.
• Soft Skills: Demonstrated commitment to quality service, strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills are crucial. The candidate should possess sound professional judgment, professional skepticism, flexibility, adaptability, teamwork skills, leadership experience, resourcefulness in delivering high-quality work, and project management skills (a plus).
• Location: Must reside within a commutable distance to the office and be able to travel to reasonably commutable work locations using personal transportation. Expect in-person work at a KPMG office or client site for at least three days per week; some client site locations may require travel and overnight stays.
