Job Description: Audit Intern

KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join its Audit Services team. This role involves working collaboratively within a team to conduct financial statement audits for primarily Japanese clients or non-Japanese companies operating in Japan. The intern will play a crucial part in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of client financial information, upholding principles of objectivity and independence.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the effectiveness of clients’ operations while maintaining professional integrity.
• Develop an understanding of client-specific risks by reviewing financial results, external information, business trends, and client transactions.
• Prepare clear and well-structured audit documentation related to client processes and technology systems.
• Execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances using appropriate standards and terminology.
• Support the execution of high-quality audits through assigned tasks and professional interactions.
• Utilize Data and Analytics (D&A) in the audit process, including data extraction and analysis using tools such as AI, Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI. Prepare related documentation.
• Act with integrity and professionalism, upholding KPMG’s work environment standards.

Qualifications:

• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent.
• Must be pursuing CPA licensure requirements in the office’s state. (Academic credit completion required before becoming an Audit Associate)
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Bilingual in English and Japanese, with the ability to use both languages in a business setting.
• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data analytics preferred; experience with data analysis tools like Alteryx or Power BI is a plus.
• Knowledge of technical accounting, financial reporting standards, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Proficiency in various computer applications, especially MS Office (especially Excel), and aptitude for learning KPMG audit tools and client applications.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality service, strong communication and time management skills, relationship-building abilities, sound professional judgment, professional skepticism, adaptability, teamwork, and leadership experience. Project management skills are a plus.
• Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the office and be able to travel to client sites as needed. The role requires in-person work at a KPMG office or client site an average of three days per week. Some client assignments may involve travel and overnight stays.
