Description: Audit Intern

KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join their Audit Services team. This role offers a chance to contribute significantly to the firm’s success while developing valuable professional skills.

Responsibilities:

• Work as part of an audit team, playing a crucial role in conducting financial statement audits for clients in the capital markets. This involves ensuring the accuracy and reliability of client financial information while adhering to principles of objectivity and independence.
• Contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of clients’ operations while upholding the highest standards of professional integrity.
• Develop a thorough understanding of client-specific risks through the review of financial results, external information, current business trends, and client transactions.
• Prepare clear and well-structured audit documentation detailing the team’s understanding of clients’ processes and technology systems.
• Under guidance, execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances, using established standards and terminology.
• Support the execution of high-quality audits through assigned tasks and professional interactions with clients and the engagement team.
• Support the utilization of Data and Analytics (D&A) in the audit process. This includes data extraction and analysis, using various technologies and tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI. Preparation of related documentation is also required.

Currently pursuings:

• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent.
• Must be pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the state where the office is located (completion of necessary academic credits before starting as an Audit Associate).
• Upon internship completion, candidates must have remaining academic credits to fulfill degree and/or CPA eligibility requirements.
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish (ability to use both languages in a business setting).
• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred, as is experience with data analysis tools like Alteryx or Power BI.
• Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Proficiency in various computer applications, particularly MS Office (especially Excel), and aptitude for learning KPMG audit tools and client applications.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality service, strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills. Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and professional skepticism.
• Flexible and adaptable team player with leadership experience and resourcefulness in delivering high-quality work. Project management skills are a plus.
• Must reside within commuting distance of the office and be able to travel to other locations using personal transportation.
• Audit professionals are expected to work in-person at a KPMG office or client site an average of three days per week; some client sites may require travel and overnight/extended stays.
