Staff Attorney | Liberty Mutual Insurance

The Tone:
This is a Staff Attorney role at Liberty Mutual Insurance, primarily remote in the state of Washington except for required appearances. What You’ll Actually Do
• Litigation Management: Independently manage all phases of civil litigation involving claims of moderate to heavy value (up to approximately $50,000 exposure), conducting comprehensive legal research and drafting precise pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
• Legal Strategy and Technology: Develop, implement, and continuously refine advanced legal strategies for discovery, investigation, and trial preparation, while employing advanced e-discovery tools, case management systems, and data analysis software to streamline workflows and reduce costs.
• Case Representation: Lead settlement negotiations and actively participate in hearings, trials, and mediations to achieve optimal case outcomes, providing support to Senior Trial Counsel and Senior Litigation Counsel as needed.
• Client Advisory and Risk: Provide clear, well-reasoned legal opinions and strategic advice to clients and Claims Representatives, building and sustaining trusted relationships, and identifying, evaluating, and mitigating legal risks in collaboration with clients and senior attorneys.
• Training, Mentoring, and Compliance: Design and conduct training sessions and workshops for Legal, Claims, and related departments, mentor junior attorneys and legal support staff, and ensure all legal documents are meticulously prepared and compliant with ethical guidelines and company policies.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school, with admission to the bar in Washington and in good standing. General knowledge of insurance law.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of successful trial attorney experience, preferably within insurance law and related litigation, with proven success managing moderately complex litigation.
• Skills: Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills; proficient in advanced e-discovery tools, legal case management software, and remote collaboration technologies; excellent communication, interpersonal, and client relationship management skills.
• Bonus: Special licenses to practice before particular boards or federal courts may be required; knowledge of workers’ compensation as necessary.
